MAIN OBJECTIVE<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>

The main objective is to trigger climate action that leads to an enhanced climate resilience in the city of Niamey<\/p>

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE<\/u><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>

Through the provision of actionable urban climate change information, involving public and private stakeholders and connecting to climate finance schemes, the main aim of u_CLIP<\/strong> is to trigger climate action that leads to an enhanced climate resilience in the city of Niamey<\/p>

We can explain the different objectives in this way:<\/p>

\u00a0EXPECTED RESULTS <\/u><\/strong>:<\/strong><\/p>

Result 1.1: <\/em><\/strong>a<\/em> digital (web-based) open-data urban climate change information platform for the city of Niamey, tailored to suit the needs of the targeted user communities and continuously operated on the infrastructure of co-applicant ACMAD.<\/em><\/p>

Result 1.2<\/em> : <\/strong>uptake by relevant public and private stakeholder communities of this platform and the urban climate information it contains, leading to the formulation of measures to enhance Niamey\u2019s resilience with respect to the projected impacts of climate change<\/p>

MAIN PLANNED ACTIVITIES<\/u><\/strong> :<\/strong><\/p>

Activity 1.1: <\/em><\/strong>p<\/em>articipatory collection of wet bulb globe temperature data (WBGT, a thermal stress indicator) within Niamey, involving citizens in the process;<\/p>

Activity 1.2:<\/em><\/strong> a<\/em>nalysis and selection of regional climate model output (CORDEX Africa and others sources), considering historic periods and future scenarios (IPCC medium & high scenarios, time horizons 2030-2050-2100);<\/p>

Activity 1.3: <\/em><\/strong>m<\/em>apping Niamey\u2019s land cover using satellite imagery (Proba-V) and participatory mapping (WUDAPT methodology, involving local citizens);<\/p>

Activity 1.4: <\/em><\/strong>u<\/em>rban growth modelling to produce future (projected) land cover and urban growth scenarios for Niamey in 2050;<\/p>

Activity 1.5:<\/em><\/strong> u<\/em>rban climate simulations with the Urban Climate model to produce input for the digital platform, using regional climate model output and present\/future Niamey urban land cover maps as input (see above);<\/em>
<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Activity 1.6: <\/em><\/strong>a<\/em>rchitectural (IT) design and development of the digital urban climate information platform \u2013 initially as a pilot version and subsequently working towards the operational version;<\/em>
<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Activity 1.7: <\/em><\/strong>o<\/em>utreach and training regarding the use of the urban climate information platform to the user communities;<\/p>

Activity 1.8: <\/em><\/strong>e<\/em>xplore ways to exploit the climate information platform in the context of applications for international climate finance<\/em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

We aim for as broad and inclusive as possible an involvement of stakeholders, including :<\/p>
